“We have no moral right to condemn US”:http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=21999
bq. What were we doing when the NATO forces were bombing Serbia? If we are concerned with the primacy of the UN, did Parliament condemn Iraq for thwarting UN resolutions for 12 years? If morality were to be the guiding force, one can apply it only if one has been always following it. We lost the moral authority to condemn US action when we decided to ignore all that Saddam has been doing.
There are people near the Marina Beach area who are not holding candles!
That was a very good interview, JK. I agree that I would be more willing to listen to people who are as open to criticizing Saddam as they will Bush, than those who cheered the Iraqi soldiers (those who were using human shields, mind you!) and Saddam during the war, and will refuse to say anything against Saddam except maybe a one-liner like “I admit Saddam is evil….but”, only in the passing. Such people have absolutely no moral basis or authority to condemn the morality odf anyone else.
..and some Indians have terrible difficulty in accepting the fact that there are Indians who support the war. They expected a blood bath, nothing happened. They expected a real war. That also did not happen. Everything they predicted went wrong. Today Chirac phones Bush. The Gold Rush is going to begin. Now they have find something new to fall back on…like it emotionally upset the camels in Basra…
“like it emotionally upset the camels in Basra…”
That’s a funny one, JK 🙂
wow, you guys really are for freedom. On onehand you demand don’t critisize me, don’t label me on the other hand, you lament antiwar’s are not saying enough bad things about Saddam.
It seems your compassion for animal suffering is limited.Are you also making jokes about children who lost their limbs &parents, how stupid of them to blame ‘Coalition forces’ for their loses all the while they are trying to liberate them from brutal dictator? Did you know that US forces fired into crowd & Killed liberated Iraq people who are protesting against US without any provocation. Why don’t you come down from your high horse you war mongerers & Chicken hawks. Just like Saddam, US is also capable of oppressing people.
Chickenhawk – do you even know what means, Sunitha? Just checking!
–Oppressed Indian in America 🙁
Sunitha, what would you have done to enforce UN Security council resolution 1441 which asked Iraq to disarm other than war ?
You are giving alot of importance to resolution 1441. Do you really know what that resolution states or just paraphrasing the Fox news? If you know, why don’t you psuedo moralists enlighten us candleholders?
I know what a chicken hawk means.”WHO NEVER PARTICIPATED IN A WAR, WHO AVOIDS PARTICIPATING IN MILITARY DUTIES WITH FALSE REASONS BUT PROCLAIMS HE/SHE IS ALL FOR WAR BECAUSE THEY KNOW FOR SURE IT IS NOT THEIR LIFE ON LINE OF FIRE.”
Thats means you war mongerors. Do you understand it or do you need another explanation?
You did not tell us your alternative for war and how you would have made Iraq disarm.
Here is the link http://usinfo.state.gov/topical/pol/terror/02110803.htm
Some relevant points:
* Recognizing the threat Iraq’s noncompliance with Council resolutions and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles poses to international peace and security
* Decides, while acknowledging paragraph 1 above, to afford Iraq, by this resolution, a final opportunity to comply with its disarmament obligations under relevant resolutions of the Council; and accordingly decides to set up an enhanced inspection regime with the aim of bringing to full and verified completion the disarmament process established by resolution 687 (1991) and subsequent resolutions of the Council;
Sunitha, unfortunately India and America don’t have a draft right now, so I never had to participate in war. Of course, if that doesn’t give me a right to talk about war, should I stop talking about the space program because I am not a rocket scientist? Should I not review a book because I have never written one and likely never will?
It is called the “freedom of speech”.
Shanti, I don’t like your attitude. I know what ‘chicken hawk’ means, what ‘freedom of expression’ is. I don’t need your simplistic examples of comparing the participation in war where lives are taken & given to writing a book to understand ‘freedom of expression’ is. So backoff.
JK, Iam no foreign policy expert, but as a person with commonsense, first I will show some solid evidence that Saddam is really a threat to the world & US. Secondly I will try to take out Saddam by using the ‘precision guided bombs’or with special assassination mission,instead of going around the country, killing innocent people & children & allowing Saddam & his henchmen to escape.
Proof ?
* Security Council resolution 1441, which states that Iraq has WMD and
asks it to disarm. Iraq accepted the resolution
also. http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/200211/14/eng20021114_106777.shtml
* Colin Powell’s speech to UN (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,889531,00.html)
Why did they not try assasination ? Even during the war, they tried
few times and it did not happen. So I wonder how it would have worked
in other situations. Even while using precision guided bombs, first
you have to know where the target is. During the Clinton
administration, they fired missles into Afghanistan, but Osama
escaped.
Sending ground troops is a decision which any President will take only
if there is no other option. There have been US casualities and that
is not something which American people can accept.
