Stephen Devassy, the 24 year old keyboard player from Palakkad was unknown to me, till I head his version of Mahishasuramardini Stotram (link has a sample) at the Melody Corner Music Store in Trichur last month. He was the music director of the album which mixed traditional devotional songs with non-traditional music along and vocals from Saindhavi, Uma Mohan and Ghayatri Devi. A student of Chetana Music Academy, he has played along with Hariharan and L. Subramaniyam as well as composed music for a bad Mohanlal movie called Hariharan Pilla Happy Aanu.
His music which has elements of gospel music is not intrusive, but gives importance to the vocals. While the music is soothing and uplifting, the vocals too are clear and perfect with their pronunciation. The store had only the above two CDs, but like others I too would buy any of his Sacred/Holy Chants series in a heartbeat.

Stephen along with other two guys from Thrissur (Sangeeth, an amazing guitar player and Franko – a sniger whom I do not like much but is popular with his songs like Chempakame which was a huge hit amongst the youth in Kerala) was part of the indipop band Seven. Their song Chaar Din Ki was a hit when it was released and the video of the song (and one more song from the same album) was appeared in all major music TV channels. They had appeared in MTV, Channel V and B4U for interviews.
What you would personally note about this youngster is his never-fading smile on the face and his down-to-earth personality.
You would have also seen him playing keyboards in Amrita TV’s hit program Super Star contest along with Alphonse.

Bless him!
Hi,
Yea i agree with comments regarding stephen.. dats great…
Seven second version in a new form is also gud… with Franko (even i dont like him much).. sangeeth the beautiful guitar player and also have heard abt him that he’s a very nice person…
If am correct Franko, sangeeth another talented person Ramdas had released an album named “The Belief” which had very beautiful songs and also if u consider franko who became popular mainly thru “chembakame”,or in other words it was only franko who became famous rather then the exact artists behind the songs who have life to it.. none other then the music director and the orchestra…its only because of orchestra the album became hit but unfortunately no one realised it.and that was done by RAMDAS…whos a great artist.. a very talented person… amazing keyboard artist… even more great then stephen… dats wat we all feel…
